Fossil’s Journey So Far
Fossil was founded in 1984, when it was founded in 1984 by Tom Kartsotis in Texas, USA. The brother of Tom Kartsotis had the idea of bringing timepieces to China to the Asian market and selling the timepieces at a reasonable price. They were initially called Overseas Products International. The vintage style of their initial timepieces, inspired by the advertisements from the 1930s-1950s, captivated people immediately.
In the year 1990 Fossil was expanding its product range to include leather items such as belts and bags. It also created a brand subsidiary called Relic. Three years later, the company’s admission to being placed on the stock market was a sign of green for more expansion. The company has taken over various brands of watches throughout the years. First they purchased Zodiac in 2001 to obtain the Swiss-style watches. Following that the company purchased Michele Watch for luxury watches then, the year 2012 was when they purchased Skagen to create modern and simple designs. In addition, in 2015, they bought Misfit in order to access the technology of smartwatches.
Where Fossil Fits
Fossil prefers to position its products more as a fashion brand than a premium one. The main focus of the business is trendy practical, useful, and affordably priced items that target the young of the market for consumer goods. A majority Fossil watches are constructed from leather and stainless steel and some hybrids that mix classic aesthetics and simple technology.
While luxurious brands aren’t, Fossil products are mass-produced and designed with the average consumer in the mind. Additionally, they’re not constructed from precious metals like diamonds or gold. This alone makes them an ordinary line of brands. Therefore, Fossil is a popular choice for style-conscious consumers who want high-quality design at a reasonable cost, not those who are purely focused on the unique or social image factor of this brand.
