Is Aliexpress banned in India? Know all About

Business Article

AliExpress is an international online retail service platform, which was established in 2010 by Alibaba Group in the year in. It connects small-scale businesses and manufacturers from China in China and Singapore with buyers from across the world. This is why AliExpress serves as an online marketplace for sellers who are independent. The products available on AliExpress vary widely including electronics, fashion, home goods jewelry, and much many more.

AliExpress started as a business-to-business buying portal but has expanded over the years to include business-to-consumer, consumer-to-consumer, payment services and cloud computing. AliExpress is available in over 220 countries across the globe. But, it is most used among Russia as well as Brazil. AliExpress has multiple languages available and provides features such as delivery assurances as well as free shipping and returns. The month of March, 2024 saw AliExpress Mobile app had 8.18 millions of users.

The ban in India

AliExpress was shut down from The Government of India on 25 the November, 2020. It was one of the 43 Chinese apps that were banned by the GOI. In the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India used its powers under Section 69A of the IT Act to ban AliExpress as well as others Chinese apps. It was not an isolated move from New Delhi. In the past, the government blocked the use of 59 Chinese smartphone apps by June 2020. and then banned additional 118 mobile apps by September.

The Government of India cited threat to security of the nation as the main reason for banning 43 Chinese apps such as AliExpress. According to the government, data gathered by Chinese apps could be at risk of being used for cyber-espionage, as well as other criminal acts against India. Privacy was a further concern mentioned by the government in bans on the apps. The lack of transparency displayed by the apps regarding their data privacy practices followed in their practices was considered to be a major issue. Other factors that led to the ban include tensions in the geopolitical sphere that exist between India and China in the aftermath of the Galwan Valley clash, promotion of e-commerce shops in India as well as protection for Indian customers from counterfeit goods.

In January 2025 the prohibition for AliExpress along with the other Chinese apps was widened through India’s Government of India.

Rumours and clarification

On August 20, 2025 many internet users from India discovered that the home page of the AliExpress website was available. The news set suspicions that AliExpress as well as other Chinese platforms were restored in India. However, officials from India’s Government of India clarified that there was no official decree to allow access to the platforms had been issued. Accessibility to websites was blamed on an error in the system.

AliExpress remains blocked in India. It is currently unavailable on the Play Store or App Store for India and the AliExpress website remains inaccessible.
