Ban in India

Snack Video was banned by the Government of India on 24 ^on November, 2020. It was one of the 43 Chinese applications blocked from authorities at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Section 69A in the Information Technology Act, 2000. In the wake of the banning of TikTok for use in India, Snack Video had been a prominent alternative. Snack Video was experiencing an increase in downloads in India before it was banned in the hands of government officials.

The decision to prohibit Snack Video and 42 other Chinese apps was made as a response to information received from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre which is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs. In the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology the ban was issued to 43 Chinese apps based on a variety of information gathered from inputs, which showed that the apps were engaged in activities that were detrimental to the integrity and sovereignty of India as well as the defense of India and security of the public order and security of the state.
